The Motown Recording Company was in Detroit, Michigan.

The Motown recording Company was founded on December 14 1959, by Barry Gordy Jr. in Detroit Michigan.

Barry Gordy was born November 28, 1929 in Detroit. He dropped out of school in the eleventh grade to became a boxer.

In 1959, he began his own company and recorded artists on Tamla Records.

In 1960, Motown released the hit song, "Shop Around" by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.

In 1961, Motown Recording Company released the hit, "Please Mister Postman"sung by the Marvelettes which became Motown's first number one hit.

In 1963, Motown released the song,"Dancing in the Streets" by "Martha and the Vandellas".

In 1971, Motown was moved to Hollywood and named Motown Industries.

The hit songs for, The Supremes were written by the songwriters, Holland-Dozier-Holland.

Motown recording Company, was also one of the first styles of pop music, where female groups were showcased as an act, instead of individual female artists, they were all very well dressed and looked like very high class women, which they were.

The many artists of the Company collaborated to produce several hit songs.

From 1960 to 1971, the company had over 100 top ten hits, with artists like Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, The Jackson Five with Michael Jackson, Marion Gaye, and Gladys Knight, they were all signed to the Company Label.
