In Barbra Streisand Biography, she was born April 24, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York.

Barbra's father passed away when she was about fifteen months old, and she lived with her mother and stepfather until she left home.

She was educated at Beis Yakov School and Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York.

In 1959, she graduated from Erasmus Hall high school and move to Manhattan, New York.

Barbra had first wanted to be an actress, but her first boyfriend, Barry Dennen helped her become a club singer.

In the early sixties, she sang in nightclubs in New York City.

She signed up with Columbia Records in 1962, and her first album, "The Barbara Streisand Album", won her two Grammy Awards in 1963.

In 1967, she quit doing public tours because of a threat against her life.

In 1968, she won an Academy Award for best actress for the film, "Funny Girl" along with Katherine Hepburn who won for the film, titled, "The Lion In Winter".

Continuing with Barbra Streisand biography, in 1977, she won an Academy Award for composing the song, "Evergreen" From "A Star is Born".

She has produced a number of her own films with her own Company, "Barwood Films" in 1972.

In 1983, she produced the film, "Yenti" and she was also the director, writer, and star, an experience she repeated for the "Prince of Tides" in 1991, but she did not get the award for Best Director.

From 1963 to 1971, she was married to Elliott Gould. Barbra had only one son with him. She named her son Jason Gould.

In Febuary 1980, she performed with Neil Diamond and together they released the song, "You Don't Bring Me Flowers".

In 1979, Barbra was named the most successful female singer in the USA.

In 1987, she began to do public tourings again, after having stopped, for nearly twenty years.

In October of 2003, she released with Columbia Records the album, "Barbara Streisand The Movie Album" with songs such as, "Smile, Moon River, Emily, Good Bye For Now" and many other hit songs.

In 1998, Barbra Streisand married James Brolin and is living in California with her husband.
