The Beach Boys history began in 1961, with Brian Wilson and his cousin Michael Love, getting together to form a band.

A few weeks later Brian's brothers, Dennis and Carl joined with their friend Al Jardine to form the Beach Boys.

The group had many different names before they became the Beach Boys, such as Kenny And The Cadets, The Passions and The Pendletones.

Continuing with Beach Boys history, Brian Wilson was born in Hawthorne California, the 20th of June, 1942. He was also the singer, and he played the bass, the piano and was also the composer for the group.

His brother, Dennis was born the 4th of December 1944, and he played the drums and sang. Carl Wilson was born the 21 December, 1946.

Micheal Love was born in Los Angeles the 15 of March, 1941. He was also co-founder for the group and sang and played the percussions.

Continuing with The Beach Boys history, surf music started in the late fifties, in clubs and dance halls in and around California.

The leader of the Del-Tones, Dick Dale was the person who many people gave credit for surfing music.

There were also The Gamblers with the song, "Moon Dawg", the Revels with, "Church Key" and the Bel-Airs with, "Mr Moto".

One of the best groups were the Surfaris with the song, "Wipe Out" which later was recorded by the Beach Boys.

There was also the West Coast sound of, Jan And Dean who came out with "Surf City", and the song, "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena", which became what they called back then, hot rod music.

Continuing with the Beach Boys history, they had a look that pleased the young teenage girls, and also pleased their parents, who had been very upset with Elvis Presley and his rock and roll movements.

The Beach Boys wore red striped shirts and they sang songs of the surf and of hot-rods. It seems Brian Wilson didn't even go to the beach that often. In the beginning of their career their songs were based on the guitar, but later with the song, "I Get Around", it was the fender jazz bass with Brian and the drums with Dennis. With the song, "California Girls" it was the cymbals and the bells.

Dennis Wilson decided with Brian, to make a song about surfing.

In 1961 the song "Surfin" was released, and caught the attention of the California teenagers and became very popular in 1962.

Their father, Murray Wilson became the manager of the group and sometimes wrote songs for them as well as for other singers. He was a very demanding manager and insisted on controlling the Beach Boys.

Continuing with Beach Boys history, the bands next hit song was called "Surfin U.S.A." and was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love. It reached number three in the United States.

They also released the songs, "Surfer Girl" and "Little Deuce Coupe" which hit the top ten on the charts.

It was in 1963, the Beach Boys began to do road tours across America with Murray Wilson and released the single, "Be True To Your School" which became a hit in December of 1963.

In 1964, they released the song, "Fun, Fun, Fun" with Mike Love on lead vocal, and also the hit song, "I Get Around" which was followed by "When I Grow Up" and "Dance, Dance, Dance".

Continuing with the Beach Boys history, in 1965, they did a remake of Bobby Freeman’s hit "Do you wanna Dance" and soon after they released the song "Help Me Rhonda" which became the number one on the American charts.

In December of 1966 the song, "Good Vibrations" also became a number one hit, it was reported, at that time, it cost more to produce than any other single record at that time.

Continuing with the Beach Boys history, in 1967, they met the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, he had also met with the Beatles and the Maharishi had a very positive influence on them.

In 1967, they released the rock songs, "Darlin" and "Wild Honey".

In 1969, they released the hit song, "I Can Hear Music".

It was at this time that Dennis Wilson, became friends with Charles Manson, who wanted to become a singer and songwriter and together they recorded the song "Never Learn Not To Love".

Continuing with the Beach Boys history, on the 9th of August in 1969, a group of Charles Manson’s followers, murdered Sharon Tate and the other residents of the house, and then went to another address and murdered Leno and Rosemary LaBianca.

Manson and his followers were arrested on the "Span Ranch" in California.

To this day Charles Manson is still being kept in jail, he still has followers who come to visit him.

The Beach Boys were not aware of and not involved in any way, with the going ons of the Manson clan.

In Feburary, 1971 the Beach Boys performed at Carnegie Hall in New York.

On June 4, 1973 their father Murray Wilson, died of a heart attack.

In 1973, Dennis Wilson in a state of depression because of personal problems jumped overboard from his boat and drowned.
