In Buddy Holly biography, he was born in Lubbock, Texas on September 7th 1936.

His real name was Charles Hardin Holley. It was a misspelling of Holley when the Record Company made a mistake on his contract and they marked Holly and left out the e.

His father worked as a tailor in a clothing store and his mother, Ella Drake looked after the children and the house.

Buddy Holly got his nickname from his friends at school.

He began learning to play the piano at eleven years old. Later he quit the piano and began to play the guitar which he liked much better than the piano.

In 1956 he formed the group, the Crickets with Jerry Allison, Joe Maudlin and Niki Sullivan.

Buddy Holly biography continues, in May of 1957 they released the song, That'll Be The Day which became a big hit that year.

Many recording companies did not want to record the song, That'll Be The Day but it was recorded by Brunswick and later Coral.

In September of 1957 the Crickets released, `the song Peggy Sue which also became a number one hit.

He appeared on the Ed Sullivan show in 1958.

Continuing with Buddy Holly biography, in March of 1958, he toured the United Kingdom with the Crickets. Paul McCartney and John Lennon watched many of the shows and got a few ideas for their future songs.

It is thought that The Beatles got the idea for the name of their group from the Crickets.

Late in the year of 1958, Buddy Holly left the Crickets to go on his own.

In 1958, he moved to New York and was later married to Maria Elena Santiago.

Continuing with Buddy Holly biography, on the third of february 1959, Ritchie Valens, J.B.Richardson, Buddy Holly and their pilot Roger Peterson were killed in the crash of a chartered four seater Beech-Craft Bonanza airplane.

It was snowing and the pilot did not see the ground. They had left Mason City and were flying to Fargo, North Dakota. They had just finish playing in Clear Lake, Iowa

Buddy Holly had also recorded a few weeks before in New York a song from Paul Anka titled, "It Doesn't Matter Anymore".
