The country music history began with the Carter family.

Beginning with country music history, James Charles Rodgers was one of the first fathers of country music. He was born in Meridian Mississippi on September 8, 1897.

He became a performer in 1925, in 1927 James Rodgers and the Carter Family signed a contract with Victor Records to do recordings for them.

In 1926, James Charles organised the James Rodgers Entertainers and sang songs like, "Sleep Baby Sleep" and the "Soldier's Sweetheart".

Country music history got a very big boost, with the Carter Family.

They performed between 1927 and 1943. The group was composed of Alvin Carter his wife Sara Carter and Maybelle Carter. They were born in the south west of Virgina.

In June of 1931, they did a recording session in Nashville Tennessee, with Jimmie Rodgers.

Continuing with county music history, in 1939 they had a program on a radio station in Mexico just on the Texas border.

It was about at this time June Carter the daughter of Maybelle joined the group.

In 1942, they moved their radio program to Charlotte, North Carolina and also performed many live shows in schools and churches.

The group disbanded when Sara left the group and she moved to California.

In the sixties folk singers performed many of the songs that were written by the Carter Family such as, "Wildwood Flowers", "Engine 143", "Little Moses", "Little Darling" and many other songs.

In 1970, they were elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame and in 1988 the Carter Family was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Continuing with country music history, in 1993 The U.S. Postal Service issued a postage stamp honoring The Carter Family.

In 2001 the family was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Association's Hall of Honor.

You can read about Hank Williams one of the great country singers on my site.
