The Grand Ole Opry history, began in 1925.

Beginning the Grand Ole Opry history, it is the oldest radio program in the United States.

It is located at 2802, Opryland Drive in Nashville, Tennessee and it specialises in country music.

It is near the Nashville International Airport in the Opryland area.

You can find the Ryman Auditorium where Hank Williams and Roy Acuff started singing, before it was named the Grand Ole Opry.

In the Grand Ole Opry history, the Opry began in November of 1925, on the fifth floor, of the National Life and Accident Insurance Company Building.

The first performer for that show was an 80 year old fiddler named, Uncle Jimmy Thompson.

The announcer was George D. Hay who had worked at many radio stations. It was George Hay who started the WSM Barn Dance which later became The Grand Ole Opry.

The Opry because of its success has moved to many places going to the Hillsboro Theatre, the Dixie Tabernacle and the War Memorial Auditorium.

In 1943, it was moved to the Ryman Auditorium which was built in 1892.

In 1969, The Johnny Cash Show was filmed every week at the Ryman Auditorium in NashVille which is also a part of the Grand Ole Opry history.

The Carter Sisters from the Carter Family were a part of the show.

In 1974, it was relocated to the Grand Ole Opry house which has seating place for nearly 4500 people.

In Grand Ole Opry history, it drew thousands of visitors every day, and the area surrounding it grew up rapidly.

Today the Opry Mills park has become one of the biggest shopping centers in the south.

It has been broadcast on WSM Radio in Nashville, Tennessee since 1925. It is also broadcast on Television and promotes live performances both in Nashville and on the road.

In many ways, the artists and repertoire of the Station defined American Country Music.

The Station had an impressive lineup of country's finest performers like, Merle Haggard, Earnest Tubb, Delmore Brothers and Patsy Cline and many more country singers.

In July of 1974, Dolly Parton and Porter Wagner performed for the last time together at the show.

Today most of the country singers and artists go there to to do shows, with singers like the Dixie Chicks, Terri Clark, Keith Anderson, Trace Adkins and Suzy Bogguss.

People who are visiting Nashville in Tennessee should stop to see the live performances. They will enjoy themselves at the Opry.

The Country Music Awards are presented here every year.

Being made a member is to be identified, as a member of the Elite of Country Music. It is still running to day with many new young performers.

In 2000 the Grand Ole Opry added to the backdrop a huge projection screen. The decor had not changed much since the eighties.

In 2005 it will be eighty years the Grand Ole Opry has been open.

In December of 2006, Jeff Bates and Chris Young played at the Ryman Auditorium.

In January 2007, Marty Stuart, Jamie O'neal, Jim Brown, Terri Clark and Keith Anderson played at the Opry.
