At the age of five, he began playing the piano at his aunt's home.

In 1964, he released an album titled, "Live at the Star Club, Hamburg" which he recorded with the Nashville Teens. In 1976, Jerry Lee was arrested at Elvis Presley's residence in Graceland, for saying to security guards that he had a gun and had come to kill Elvis Presley. It was supposed to be a joke but the guards did not know Elvis had invited Jerry Lee Lewis to visit him. In 1986, he was inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 1986, he recorded an album titled, "Class of '55" with
Johnny Cash,
Roy Orbison and Carl Perkins. Also in 1986, he checked into the Betty Ford Clinic to overcome an addiction to painkillers.
