Beginning with Jimi Hendrix biography, he was born in Seattle Washington on the 27, of November 1942. His Father was a black man and his Mother was a Cherokee Indian. He learned to play guitar at fifteen years old. Jimi Hendrix was kicked out of school when he was very young, because he was caught holding the hand of a young white girl, which was taboo in that time. He served about a year in the 101 Airborn Para Troopers. He became popular in 1966 in the Club Wha in Greenwich Village where protest singers hung out. Jimi sang with
B.B.King,
Sam Cooke, Little Richard and Curtis Knight but it was his singing every night in Greenwich Village that really got his career moving. Continuing with Jimi Hendrix biography, he played the rock and blues with a passion that could not be measured. In September of 1966, he went to England with Chas Chandler, the bassist from the Animals who decided to take him under his wing and he formed a group with Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding. The Jimi Hendrix Experience played at The Olympia and toured the other clubs in England where they recorded, "Hey Joe" followed by "Purple Haze" and "The Wind Cries Mary". In England, he met Kathy Etchingham who became his girlfriend for more than two years. It was Kathy that introduced Jimi to The Who and the
Rolling Stones.
Their first album of the Jimi Experience was titled, "Are You Experienced". Eric Burdon said, "Jimi was the only singer who sang like he was trying to make love to the stars". continuing with Jimi Hendrix biography, in 1967, he did a show at the Monterey Festival with Otis Redding. In 1968, he did a U.S. tour of fourty nine cities. In 1969, in the State of New York, he closed the big three day show at the
Woodstock Festival
with his verion of "The Star-Spangled Banner". Continuing with Jimi Hendrix biography, in 1969, he formed a group named "The Band Of Gypsies" with bassist Billy Cox and Drummer Buddy Miles. In 1969, a jury in Toronto, Canada found him not guilty of possession of heroin and hashish. He died on September 18, 1970 in London England while working on a new album titled, "First Ray of the Rising Sun" at the young age of twenty eight from an overdose of pills or choking to death on them. In 1995, the rights to his estate and all his recordings were given to his father, Al Hendrix by the courts. In 1999, the show from Woodstock was released and also his recordings from the "Band of Gypsies".
In October of 2004 the CD titled, "Live in Copenhagen" was released. In January of 2005 the CD titled, "An Evening with the Jimi Hendrix Experience" was released. In August of 2005 a new book written by Charles Cross, titled "Room Full Of Mirrors" was released. This book recounts the life of Jimi Hendrix, from his childhood to brushes with the law and his climb to rock stardom. In September 2005, his complete performance at the Woodstock Festival will be released on DVD with artists that played in the festival of 1969. The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and many other artists will be included in the DVD titled, "Live At Woodstock" which will be released in the UK.
