Beginning with Johnny Cash history, he was born in Arkansas on February 26, 1932.

His Father Roy Cash was a farmer and a laborer. He started to compose his songs at about twelve years old.

He began to sing while working with his family on a farm near Kingsland, Arkansas.

He achieved local fame for his singing in high school and in 1950 he enlisted in the Air Force, and was discharged in 1954.

Johnny Cash enrolled in a radio and television school, hoping to be an announcer, but lack of money changed his plans.

He got married to his girl friend, Vivian Liberto.

In August of 1954, he went to live in Memphis Tennessee, about the same time Elvis Presley was just beginning to record for Sun Records.

The first time Johnny Cash approached Sun Records he was turned down by Sam Phillips, who said he was to busy promoting Elvis Presley.

Continuing with Johnny Cash history, in 1955 he was signed up with Sun Records as Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two, a band with Luther Parker and Marshall Grant who were two of his good friends.

Their first hits in 1956 were, "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk The Line".

He performed on The Louisiana Hayride in December of 1955, and went on to the Grand Ole Opry in July of 1956.

In 1957, he became the first artist to make a long playing album at Sun Records, the recording studio where Elvis Presley started recording.

Today at Sun Records, you can buy songs that have never been released before.

In 1958, the Tennessee Two switched to Columbia Records and made a hit with the song, "Don't take your Guns To Town".

He started to work with June Carter in 1961.

In 1963, Johnny released his first major hit with Columbia Records titled "Ring of Fire".

Continuing with Johnny Cash history, in 1964, he performed with Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival and recorded the song, "Bitter Sweet Tears".

Johnny later recorded a country hit with June Carter Cash, titled, "It Ain't Me Babe" a song by Bob Dylan. That song, had also been sung by Sonny and Cher.

Continuing with Johnny Cash history, in 1965, he was arrested for possession of stimulants, at the Texas El Paso International Airport.

In 1967, he released his top Country hit with the song, "One Piece At A Time".

In 1967, he released the hit, "Jackson" with June Carter.

In 1968, Johnny Cash was married to June Carter. He had Four Daughters, Rosanne, Tara, Cindy, and Kathy. He also had a son named John Carter with her.

In 1968, he gave his concert at California's Folsom Prison with June Carter at his side.

In 1969, he was the hottest act around selling around 250,000 albums per month of his "Folsom Prison Blues" and "San Quintin" albums.

Continuing with Johnny Cash history, from 1969 till 1971, he was host of the Johnny Cash Show on ABC TV. It was filmed at the Ryman Auditorium which later was named, The Grand Ole Opry.

On his show Johnny Cash featured performers like, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Neil Diamond, Kenny Rogers, Roy Orbison, Judy Collins and many other singers.

In 1969, he made a hit with Carl Perkins titled, "Daddy Sang Bass".

In 1969, he sold more records than the Beatles.

Later in 1981, he released his country hit, "The Baron".

In 1986, after being with Columbia Records for about twenty eight years, he signed up with Mercury Records.

In 1993, Johnny went to work with American Records.

On January 15 1992, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Continuing with Johnny Cash history, in 1996,he recorded an album with Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers, that included most of his hit songs.

Johnny Cash died September 12, 2003 and will be missed by many millions of people.

Everybody knew him as the "Man in Black". He recorded over 1000 songs and was the youngest person to be chosen for, the Country Music Hall Of Fame.
