Beginning with Martin Luther King biography, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King was born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. His real name was Michael Luther King, but he had it changed to Martin Luther King. He Attended segragated public schools in Georgia, Atlanta and graduated from high school when he was fifteen years old. In 1951, he was awarded a Bachlors Degree for theological studies. In June of 1953, Martin Luther King got married to Coretta Scott, and together they had two sons and two daughters. In 1954, he became pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Chruch in Montgomery, Alabama. He was a leader in the 1955 Mongomery bus boycott, which began when Rosa Parks refused to give her seat to a white person. Rosa Parks was arrested for not respecting the white people. This arrest was to start the Civil Rights Movement. It was after this that the United States Supreme Court made the decision outlawing segragation on intrastate buses. In 1957, he became president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference He Organised marches for the right to vote, fair hiring, and other basic civil rights. In the early sixties Martin Luther was arrested in Atlanta and was sentenced to four months in jail, but was released when Bobby Kennedy called a Judge and this helped JF Kennedy to win the Elections in 1960 with the help of the black voters. Continuing with Martin Luther King biography, in 1963 the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, organised a peaceful march on Washington, D.C. There was about two hundred fifty thousand people who came to see him speak. He told the crowd of people present, "I have seen the promised Land. I may not get there with you, but I know tonight we, as a people shall get to the promised land". In 1963, He was named Man of the Year by Time Magazine. In 1964 he received the Nobel Peace Prize. Continuing with Martin Luther King biography, in 1965 and 1966 he protested the United States role in the Vietnam War.
He was assassinated April 4, 1968 on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was to lead a protest March for workers of that City. He is buried at the King Center in Atlanta Martin Luther King was shot by James Earl Ray, who said he was paid to do the killing. Martin King was arrested at least 18 times in his life. In 1986, Legislation was passed in Congress, and Ronald Reagan signed the bill, making the 15 of January, Martin Luthur King Day. His wife, Coretta Scott King died the 30th of January, 2006.
