Neil Diamond

Beginning with Neil Diamond history, he was born January 24, 1941 and raised in Brooklyn New York, he attended high school with Barbara Streisand.

He wrote the song, "I'm a Believer" for the group, the Monkees.

This was taken from his record cover titled, "Hot August Night" recorded in August of 1972.

It was a hot sultry night in California, with the air hanging heavy over the open, glistening shell of the Greek Theatre, over 5000 people comfortable on the broad seats.

Then softly, the music begins, the lights dim, slowly the heavy fire doors roll back; the music rises, the stage is a smokey, opalescent jewel in the darkness. But one light shines brighter than the others, and for an instant, sound hangs suspended, then he's there.

Neil Diamond as casual as if it's the most natural thing in the world, those 5000 people were demanding his soul.

For the next two hours he gives it to them, a spontaneous, exhausting display of energy and sensuality, and the people are right there with him, screaming and cheering and applauding, knowing all the words to all the songs but hearing them for the first time.

That's what he gives them, singing as though he, too were just discovering the heart and soul of the music, every number unique and exhilarating.

Too soon, almost before the moment is realized, it's over. The encore, the ovations, the bows he has gone, in joy and triumph, and as the people begin to leave, reluctant, unwilling to relinquish the intimacy and the sensation.

The silence again settles on the Greek Theatre, heavy and still until the next evening, when once again he will shatter the hot August night.

Continuing with Neil Diamond history, in 1970, he moved to Los Angeles, California and signed a record deal with MCA Records and released the song," Sweet Caroline" and "Song Sung Blues".

In 1972, he was named entertainer of the year, by the American Guild of Variety Artists.

In December of 1972, "Hot August Night" was awarded a gold record by the Recording Industry Association of America.

In 1973, he signed with Columbia Records and recorded the soundtrack to "Jonathn Livingston Seagull".

In 1974,he released the album,"Serenade".

In 1976, he released "Beautiful Noise", produced by The Band's Robbie Robertson.

In 1977, Neil Diamond released the album, "I'm Glad You're With Me Tonight", which included the song, "You Don't Bring Me Flowers".

By 1993, his record album "Hot August Night" had sold over Two Million copies.
